God IS My Source

My mother was my best friend. I don’t think I was hers because I didn’t really know what it looked like to be a good friend, but boy my mom did! She’s been gone 11 years in 2018 and it has been a rough road for my brother Chad and I. She was our rock in a very tumultuous family, and she showed us what Jesus looked like.

This morning I was listening to one of my favorite teachers, Steven Furtick, and he was making it very clear to his classroom that “God is our source”. As he was having the attendees turn to one another and say out loud, “God is your source”, I was hearing my mother’s voice echo through my head. One of the greatest things she taught me was that God IS my source, He always has been and He always will be. She was typically referring to finances when she was saying this to me, but as a middle aged woman with experience under my belt I can honestly say that God is my source in every area. I miss my mom, she was full of wisdom and courage, she loved many and she loved well. She lost the love of her life, my dad was succombed to the world around us, around my age now. I was only 15 when my parents split up and she and I moved to Tulsa from Muskogee and it was just us. I wasn’t very easy on her, I was scared and lonely with no one to turn to and I didn’t know God very well. But she and I did it together, she showed me courage that I had never seen in her and it gave me hope.

As a mother of grown children, looking back to my relationship with my mom all those years ago, I’m so grateful for who each of my children are! They’ve treated me with respect and friendship, most of the time, and that is what I wish I would have given my mom more of. Each one brings a different piece to the table, a cool mixture of Hubby and me. What I want them to know in the depths of their souls is that God IS their source too. We are being blessed with an opportunity to lead by example in our home again as our two daughters prepare to move back in with us. I’m excited and nervous at the same time! Our son is returning soon from the Middle East and will be back in the states for good, I think. We’re so grateful for a son that serves in the Air Force! God is doing a new thing all around and we are excited to watch as He draws each of them to the conclusion that HE is their source.
